Full Day Workshop in NYC April 17, 2016
Do you love traveling so much that you dream of taking a career break to travel the world? Or maybe you want to break into the travel industry as a writer, photographer, or videographer so that you can live a life of travel. You can learn to do all of these things and more, at the NY Travel Festival April 16 – 17. It’s a full weekend of travel-industry-related talks, networking, happy hours and travel giveaways.
AND NY Travel Festival is teaming up with Meet, Plan, Go! to host a career break travel workshop that will reveal wanderlust-inducing information to help get you on our way!
An intimate Meet Plan Go workshop will take place on Sunday, April 17 and cover crucial topics to the career-break traveler. Become inspired by people who have “been there” and meet and network with others with similar career-break travel goals. The Sunday Only Traveler ticket is only $35. Or attend the whole weekend and experience the entire conference with other ticket options. Space is limited.

10-11 a.m. - Overcoming Fears to Travel Long-Term
Hear from career break veterans about the pros and cons to taking a career break to travel long-term and learn how you can overcome your fears to hit the road! (Rainer Jens, Susie Cleary Chau, Jane Stanfield, Brianne Miers; moderated by Katie Aune)
11 a.m. – 12 p.m. - Planning for Long-Term Travel
This wide-ranging panel will address the logistical issues of planning for long-term travel, from what to do with your home, stuff, and pets, to what to pack and what gear to carry, to dealing with financial issues on the road. (Rainer Jens, Jane Stanfield and Susie Cleary Chau, Mike & Anne Howard)
12-1 p.m. - Making Long-Term Travel Affordable
Long-term travel is possible for everyone, no matter where you’re coming from! Learn how to budget for a long-term trip, how to save money on the road and how to make money while traveling. (Jeff Wright, Brandie Wright and Wynne Gavin, Mike & Anne Howard)
3–4 p.m. - Travel with a Purpose
Volunteering can be a great way to add purpose to your travels. Learn how to find the right volunteer opportunity for you and how to make the most of the experience. (Katie Aune and Jane Stanfield)
4-5 p.m. - Returning Home After Long-Term Travel
What happens when you come home after taking a career break to travel? Learn how to find a job again when you return, how you can leverage your break into a new career and how to deal with reverse culture shock. (Katie Aune, Jeff Wright, Brandie Wright and Brianne Miers; moderated by Rainer Jens)
5-6 p.m. - Career Break Roundtables
Take this opportunity to meet with any of the Meet, Plan, Go speakers to ask any questions remaining after the day’s sessions.

I really enjoyed reading your post. I am thirty-two soon and have itchy feet that are ready to try out foreign soils.
It is a fear of leaving the security of the day to day grind of paying the bills and living a safe and non-challenging way of life that has put me on hold for some time.
I hope (as it has I) your post will inspire others to go and follow their bliss – Leah 🙂

Travel and experiencing a new culture really has put it into perspective, and filled that void with purpose (and joy).
In three weeks I’ll be moving to Paris myself for one month. I have the same feeling – the incredible surreal realization that I’m going to be living there…. it’s thrilling!!

Oh, Jenny! Escargot isn’t palatable — it’s delicious! I love your writing style; it’s so fun and energetic. Can you believe how far we’ve come? Everyone, Jenny and I were in the exact same industry and have known each other online and via work emails for years and years. But we’ve only met once, many, many years ago. And one of those jobs she was sleeping next to her BlackBerry for was one I’d just left. And now she’s 33 and living abroad, just like I was last year. Kindred spirits. Jenny, you’re a true inspiration — I can’t wait to see how your adventure unfolds!

I am a firm believer in living and working overseas, just as you described. However, many of us actually like our jobs and our homes and are simply looking to renew and refresh our lives, not change it. However, you can have the same type of cultural experience without having to reach into your own wallet and without having to quit your day job–by taking what I call a “working vacation.” My wife and I have done this 15 separate times, from Australia to Zimbabwe, Turket to Tibet, Mauritius to Mongolia.
